Hello. I have an HP Envy 5542. All of a sudden, it can't find my laptop to scan to. I've tried restarting the laptop and the printer. When I open the HP Smart app on my laptop, it says it's ready to accept the scan. I did the diagnostics via HP Smart and it says there are no issues. Any help/tips would be appreciated!

If your HP Envy 5542 printer is unable to find your laptop for scanning, despite restarting both devices and running diagnostics, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check Network Connection

  • Ensure that both your printer and laptop are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.Verify that the Wi-Fi signal strength is strong and stable on both devices.

2. Restart Devices

  • Turn off both your printer and laptop.Wait for a few minutes, then turn them back on.After restarting, try scanning again to see if the issue is resolved.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Envy 5542 printer.Visit the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download/install any available updates.

4. Reinstall HP Smart App

  • Uninstall the HP Smart app from your laptop.Reboot your laptop.Download and reinstall the HP Smart app from the official website or app store.Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the app and try scanning again.

5. Firewall and Security Settings

  • Check if any firewall or security software on your laptop is blocking the communication between the printer and laptop.Temporarily disable the firewall or security software and try scanning again.

6. Reset Printer Network Settings

  • On your printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings.Find the option to reset network settings to factory defaults.Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network and try scanning again.

7. Re-add Printer to HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app on your laptop.Remove your HP Envy 5542 printer from the app.Re-add the printer by following the on-screen instructions.Once added, try scanning again to see if the issue is resolved.

8. Check Scanner Settings

  • On your printer's control panel, check the scanner settings to ensure they are configured correctly.Make sure that the scanning destination is set to your laptop.

9. Test with Another Device

  • If possible, try scanning from another device (e.g., smartphone or tablet) to see if the issue is specific to your laptop.This can help determine if the problem lies with the printer or laptop.
