If your HP printer copies only in red, but prints perfectly from a computer and passes tests like HP Print Doctor, the issue may relate specifically to the copy function. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

 

Check Printer Settings:
 

  • Ensure that the copy settings in the printer menu are not set to monochrome or color restricted to red. Reset the copy settings to default to eliminate any misconfigurations.


Perform a Copy Test:
 

  • Try making a copy using both the Automatic Document Feeder (if available) and the scanner glass to determine if the issue is isolated to one scanning method.


Inspect Ink Cartridges and Printhead:
 

  • Ensure all ink cartridges are installed correctly and have sufficient ink, particularly the non-red colors.
  • Clean the printhead using the printer's maintenance options, as clogged nozzles can sometimes affect color output during copying.


Match Copy and Print Settings:
 

  • Align settings between copying and printing modes. For example, check if the economode or draft mode is enabled for copying and disable it.


Update Printer Firmware:
 

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date, as updates often fix bugs and improve functionality. Official HP® Support


Perform a Hard Reset:
 

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on. Try the copy function again.
