@BOB7711, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Scanner Switching from Document Feeder to Glass on HP OfficeJet 8028e!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet 8028e is switching from the document feeder to the glass when you attempt to scan, it could be due to several reasons. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check Document Feeder Settings:

  • Ensure that you have selected the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) option in the scanning software.
  • Verify that the paper guides are properly adjusted to hold your document firmly in place.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Inspect the Document Feeder:

  • Open the ADF cover and check for any debris or obstructions. Remove any visible dust, paper fragments, or foreign objects.
  • Ensure the rollers are clean and are not worn out.

Ensure Proper Document Placement:

  • Make sure that the document is properly placed in the feeder and that it has been accepted by the feed mechanism.
  • Confirm that the document is neither too thick nor too thin and meets the scanner's specifications.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check and update the printer's firmware to the latest version available. You can do this through the HP Smart app or on the HP support website.

Reinstall the Scanner Software:

  • Uninstall the current scanner software from your computer.
  • Download and install the latest version of the HP scanning software from the HP website.

Steps to Check ADF Settings on Windows:

  1. Open the HP software on your computer.
  2. Select your printer and go to the scan settings.
  3. Ensure you have selected ADF (if available) or document feeder in the scan source settings.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
