Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My printer required I download HP Smart in order to use it. I am wondering if I can operate the printer/scanner/copier w/o the application. Right now I'm up to two incidents where the application has stopped me from scanning in homework assignments for college. It's screwing up my grade. I'd rather just hit scan on the printer and have the files. Is that possible without this stupid app?
