Hi @Dee914

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how inconvenient it feels when a document only prints halfway—it interrupts your work and wastes paper. You’ve already noticed the symptom clearly, and that effort deserves appreciation.

Let’s look at the most common causes and how to address them.

Possible causes

  • Print spooler or driver communication issue between the computer and printer.
  • Incorrect paper size or margin settings in the document.
  • Outdated or corrupted printer driver.
  • Firmware or software mismatch on the printer.
  • Hardware factors such as paper feed interruption.

Steps to resolve

1. Check document and paper settings

  • In the application you’re printing from, confirm the page size matches the paper loaded.
  • Ensure margins are not set outside printable area.

2. Clear print queue and restart spooler

  • On Windows, open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right‑click your printer and select See what’s printing.
  • Cancel all jobs.
  • Restart the computer and printer, then try again.

3. Update or reinstall printer driver

  • Visit the official HP support page:
    HP Printer Drivers and Software
  • Enter your printer model and download the latest driver for Windows.
  • Install it and restart the computer.

4. Print a test page from the printer

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Reports > Printer Status Report.
  • If the test page prints fully, the issue is likely software/driver related.
  • If the test page also prints halfway, it may be a hardware or firmware issue.

5. Update printer firmware

  • From the same HP support page, check for firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Install the update and restart the printer.

6. Try printing from HP App

  • Install the HP App from the Microsoft Store.
  • Add your printer and try printing the same document.
  • This bypasses some driver conflicts and can confirm if the issue is application‑specific.

Half‑printed documents are usually caused by driver or spooler issues rather than the printer hardware itself. The most effective immediate actions are to clear the print queue, reinstall the driver, and test with HP App.
