@RSC2025, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Copying and Scanning Issues with Colored Ink Bars on HP7740!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you're encountering problems with your HP7740 printer related to colored ink bars during copying and scanning, it may indicate an issue with the print quality or the ink cartridges. Follow the steps below to troubleshoot and resolve these problems:

Check Ink Cartridges

Ensure Genuine HP Cartridges: Make sure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Replace any non-HP or refilled cartridges with authentic ones.

Check Ink Levels: Low ink levels might be causing the issue. Check the estimated ink levels on the printer control panel.

Print Quality Diagnostic Report

Load Paper: Load plain white paper into the printer tray.

Access Tools via Printer Panel:

  • Tap the Settings icon on the printer control panel.
  • Choose Tools and select Print Quality Report.
  • Examine the Print Quality Diagnostic report for defects.

Clean Printheads

Automatic Cleaning:

  • On the printer control panel, tap the Settings icon, then tap Tools followed by Clean Printhead.
  • The printer cleans the printheads and prints a test page. Check the test page quality.

Repeat Cleaning: If the initial cleaning doesn’t improve print quality, you might need to clean the printhead again until you achieve optimal print quality.

Align Printer

  1. Load Paper and Align Printer:
    • Load white plain paper in the input tray.
    • On the printer control panel, tap Settings, then Tools, and select Align Printer.
    • Follow the instructions to scan the alignment page.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

We've tried all this and have been told it's a software issue. Thank you anyway.
