I am using Deskjet 2610.  With Adobe Flash no longer supported, and HP Solutions Center no longer functional without it, neither of the two solutions you've mentioned support OCR when I scan to PDF.  Does this mean I need a new scanner?  If so, I can assure you it won't be an HP due to their lack of foresight with the impending EOL of Adobe Flash, and having a satisfactory solution for their customers.  These workarounds without all features available is NOT a satisfactory solution.
