Hi @jackdog20,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that. If your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e scans fine with the HP Smart app but isn’t recognized by Adobe Acrobat, it’s likely a driver or compatibility issue—especially if Acrobat is defaulting to a generic or IPP driver instead of HP’s full-featured one.

Here’s how to fix it:

1. Install HP’s Full Feature Software

Adobe Acrobat needs the full HP driver suite—not just the basic or IPP driver.

This ensures Adobe can access TWAIN or WIA protocols required for scanning

2. Check Driver Type in Printer Properties

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your HP 9730e > Printer Properties > Advanced
  • Make sure the Driver is listed as an HP driver—not “Microsoft IPP Class Driver”

3. Run Adobe Acrobat as Administrator

  • Right-click the Acrobat shortcut > Run as administrator
  • Go to File > Create > PDF from Scanner
  • Select your HP scanner from the list

4. Update Adobe Acrobat

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of Acrobat
  • Older versions may not support newer HP models

5. Test with Windows Fax and Scan

  • Open Windows Fax and Scan from the Start menu
  • Try scanning from there to confirm TWAIN/WIA access

Let me know if Acrobat still refuses to recognize the scanner—I can walk you through registry tweaks or help test with alternate scanning apps.

You’re close to getting this sorted!
