First of all do not mark it as SOLVED. Solving would be providing customers a way to use their scanner without signing in.
You can mark it SCREWED or something similar.
You know how sometimes you guys ask in surveys if customer would recommend a product, well guess what the answer it for this scanner, and for every HP scanner for that matter since this nice addition of yours.
Please pass this frustration up the chain and see if there are reasonable people who will rectify this problem.
