I can only scan through the iPhone app, through my Mac it shows that the printer is not supported

The 28xx series is not on the Apple Air Print compatibility list

Connect the printer to the router

Install HP Smart on your Mac and let it obtain the needed drivers

 

Wi-Fi reset instructions and videos are shown below. Generally you have 2 hours to connect your printer after performing the Wi-Fi reset. Note that a reset video may show a slightly different model than yours.

 

Watch this video to see how to reset your printer: 2800.
Microsoft's Copilot may have more recent videos.

 

This video shows how to connect to the router: 2800 2810
A simple connection to the router can be done by using the WPS pushbutton method. This is explained on page 11 in this User Manual.

 

I am not sure if Wi-Fi direct works with MacOS but you can try itWi-Fi Direct is explained on page 11 of the User Manual, this Wi-Fi setup avoids configuring the router.
