Hi @BRITZ2006,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's not uncommon for scanners in printers to encounter jamming issues, including the HP OfficeJet 4650. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem.

  • Check for obstructions: Ensure that there are no obstructions blocking the scanner's path, such as paper scraps, dust, or foreign objects. Even a small piece of debris can cause a jam.
  • Use the correct paper size and type: Make sure you're using the correct size and type of paper for your printer. Using incompatible paper can cause jams.
  • Inspect the scanner mechanism: Open the scanner lid and visually inspect the scanner mechanism for any signs of damage or misalignment. If you notice anything unusual, such as broken parts or misaligned components, you may need to contact HP support for further assistance.
  • Clean the scanner glass: Dust, fingerprints, or smudges on the scanner glass can interfere with the scanning process and cause jams. Use a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner to clean the scanner glass thoroughly.
  • Update printer firmware: Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve issues with scanning and other functions. Check the HP website for any available firmware updates for your OfficeJet 4650 and follow the instructions to install them.
  • Reset the printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on again. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues with the printer's scanning mechanism.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
