Officejet Pro 8600 N911g
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I have an Officejet Pro 8600 N911g and I use MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6

I open the HP Utility software and I click on Scan to Computer

Next it shows that Scan to Computer is Disabled

Next I click on Enable Scan to Computer

Lastly the message states Communication Error - Unable to communicate with device.

I want to be able to scan using the printer scan button and not resorting to opening up the HP Easy Scan App and walking back and forth between my printer and computer each time

Can someone explain how to resolve this issue?

NOTE:
HP Easy Scan Works and Printing Works and the printer is connected to my WiFi

@IronZar, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to scan from the printer screen. The steps you tried are correct.

Since you are able to print and scan fine from the Mac, it means the printer hardware is working fine.

Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the Mac

Perform a ping test to check if the connectivity is uninterrupted

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
  3. Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
  4. Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
  5. Note: There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Try to enable 'scan to computer' and check if that helps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
