Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

OfficeJet Pro 8600 N911g
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have one printer and 3 computers.  2 of the computers have Network Shares setup that I am able to successfully Scan to.  I added a 3rd computer to the household, and am setting up a network share folder (call it ScottsScans) to send scans to on that new computer.  I cannot get this to work.  The printer error message is that it "cannot connect to "shared network folder name (ScottsScans)".. So, sounds like an access issue, right?  Odd thing is I can logon to each of the other 2 computers, and access the New Shared Folder (ScottsScans) on the New machine just fine.  So, that tells me that I have Windows Network Shared Folder security setup correctly.  The only device that cannot access this ScottScans Shared folder is the HP Printer/Scanner!?

An idea...

If you have not done so, consider using the IP Address of the respective computer as opposed to the "server" (computer) name.

General example

NOTE - The section illustrates a mapped connection to (in the case of the example) a NAS (network file storage unit on the same network).

I had tried that, but I tried again a few times.  Still get the error.  Thanks for the suggestion

You may have an SMB V1.0 issue. Microsoft has discontinued support for SMB V1.0 and on new Windows 10 installs it is disabled by default. It is a security risk using 1.0 but some people still do.  You could enable it and try to see if that resolves the issue.

According to this document http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05547920  The 8600 only supports SMBV1.0 so you will need to enable it to  be able to scan. On your PC go to control panel>programs and features and click Windows features on the left hand side.

SMB V1.0 is enabled, and still does not work.  BTW, It is enabled on the other 2 computers, too.  Are you saying that the 8600 doesn't support SMV V3?

Check / Adjust SMB on printer

Embedded Wed Server (EWS)

Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Advanced Settings > SMB

Click Apply to save any changes

EWS_9025_Network_Advanced_SMBEWS_9025_Network_Advanced_SMB

If you believe the issue is an ownership / permission error and (even) adjusting permissions in the destination folder Properties > Security > Edit has not resolved the problem,

Consider

Restart everything, including the router.

For the purposes of initial testing, suggested: Shut off  (and leave off) game systems, phones, tablets, TV connections.

Verify / Switch-on Network discovery and File and Printer sharing:

This is likely fine - quick check...

Control Panel > icon view > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings >

Under Private (current profile) >

Network Discovery

Select Turn on network discovery

Check Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices

File and printer sharing

Select Turn on file and printer sharing

HomeGroup Connections

Select Allow windows to manage homegroup connections (recommended)

Save Changes

Create a new local account on the computer.

After the account is created, edit the account and change the account type to "Administrator"

Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10

Log into the new account

Create a Test folder

Share the folder, open access

Try creating the "Scan to Network" profile for this account / location.

The point of the exercise is to reduce the number of places the connection can fail.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What else?

Not sure - thinking on it...

If it has not already been done (I might have missed it) - assign the printer its own IP address.

If the router is running both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, make sure the SSID (network name) is different for each bandwidth.

This is a singular event on one system - consider whether there are differences in that Operating System that could cause the upset.

For example, consider whether the system is running Windows 2004 when perhaps other computers on the network (that do work) are running other than the latest Windows version.

Why would Windows version even matter?  The printer and its Full Feature Software (printer software) are likely compatible with Windows 2004 - there is no obvious reason for the issue in this one area.  That said, having eliminated other factors, it is worth a look.

Well, I got it to work, but no 100% sure why.  I did the items listed above, and no change.  However, I did another restart on the computer and router, and I made "progress" to an error message to the effect that "write permission" is missing.  Progress!   The printer could connect/find the network share; just was missing permissions!  So, How did I make it work?  I went into Advanced Sharing on that folder, and granted EVERYONE Full Access.  What I dont' understand is that Everyone had Read/Write, and my user account has "owner" priviliedges".   But then I went into the special permissions area and granted Everyone full access, and it works!   I'm an old, retired mainframe guy who knows just enough to be dangerous.  Microsoft Networking drives me crazy!

Excellent!

Well, that’s partly why I wanted to mention the permission settings without really getting into it.  If you understand the process to make the changes - and you do, then slamming at the permissions can be fruitful.  When one doesn’t understand how permissions work, they are usually best left alone.  Smiling.

So, regardless of the oddity, it works.

No, for the moment, not having seen this on a local folder, I do not know the cause of the anomaly.

I might spend the time to Check this write up and example plate; you might not be the only to whom this will happen.

Stay safe.
