I managed to get the printer set up on the network and then configure SMTP server so i could use scan to email. All was working well and I did a few test scans which turned up in my inbox. I then spent a while trying to get LDAP address book working (which i finally did). It was at that point i registered my printer for HP+ and the 3 month free trial of InstantInk. As soon as the HP+ registration and instantink registration had completed I lost the ability to scan to email from the control panel. It is now telling me i need to follow instructions for using HP Smart which kinda defeats the object of scanning to email when I'm then sat at the **bleep** laptop that it would be emailing it to. Anyone know how I get the scan to email function back on my control panel?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

Not sure.

I can provide a couple of ideas --

Dragon Comments

I have a similar model printer (9135e) and enabling HP+ did not break my SMTP Quick Sets Profiles for the Email Servers.

I am not using an Email Servers LDAP server setup so cannot comment on that portion.

HP+ does add / provide access to additional premium scan features and to Print Anywhere.

HP+ also "attaches" itself to your printer to monitor the "web services" (printer Internet) status and the built-in security.

Admittedly, I've never had an Instant Ink subscription and cannot speak to whether it could impact Quick Sets / Profiles created in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).  ?

Question:

"It is now telling me i need to follow instructions for using HP Smart"

Where / What is "it" --

What are you doing (and where) when are you see the  message?

It is true that some settings related to HP Smart impacted when HP+ is enabled.

For example, HP Smart - Shortcuts can be created to send content to one or more recipients.

?  I don't know whether existing HP Smart Shortcuts could be impacted by enabling HP+ though the service does add features to the type of content that can be scanned / saved to Cloud Storage.  Sure - that might break something.

and

Changes are also made to your HP Smart / HP Connected account to make way for Print Anywhere to be set up and used.

What to do?

Perhaps Try / Consider

If not done...

Restart everything - printer, computer, plus the router if you can stand it.

Open EWS - Select and run through the Edit setup for the General > Email Servers Profile -- there ought not be any changes, but sometimes "editing" can set the Profile to rights.

Next, check / Edit the Scan to email profile in Quick Sets.

===========================

Security - Access Control

Side Bar...

Security > Access Control settings.

If you did edited the setting, try re-setting back to the "defaults" to test.

For example -

Switch off "User Authentication" in Network > Advanced Settings > Remote Scan

AND

Switch the settings you changed from "Printer User Accounts" back to "Use Default"

Example - EWS - Security - Access Control

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

1)  Section General > Email Servers

And, next

2)  Section Scan > Scan to Email
