Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Sanaer not found. Printer works but can't use scaner.

I have the exact same problem. HP Smart finds my printer, but if I click scan, it can't communicate with it.

Latest HP software appears to have completely removed the scanner from my printer from my laptop.

Super frustrating that HP can cripple my printer like this. I've wasted over an hour installing all of that useless HP software onto my laptop.

 

But, I do have a workaround:

1. insert a USB stick into the printer.

2. hit the scan icon on the printer.

3. select USB drive

4. When it's done, pull out the stick and insert into computer

5. look under the DCIM folder. I found my file here: "D:\DCIM\100HPAIO\SCAN0016.JPG"
