Scanjet 7000n SSD Drive swap Unsupported Disk Present?

HP Recommended
HP 7000n
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have a set of old goat Hp Scanjet 7000n unit's that are just work so darn good.

Some are getting VERY slow and in the past we've had to swap out their 2.5" HDD's and their performance went back to new.

Tried to close the factory 2.5 spindle drive to a new 2.5 SSD in hopes of gaining some boot performance.

When doing so we get the error "Error 99.0960 Printer Error.  Unsupported Encrypted Disk Present.  Remove Hard Drive. "

This is the 7000n not 7000nx where the NX is the encrypted model.

Please help 🙂

SSD is NOT SUPPORTED in this product. In some cases if performance is lagging, performing a format and reinstalling the firmware can really help. If the drive is dead, you need to replace with another spinning disk. If you want to use FutureSmart 4 firmware, you must install an SED (self-encrypting) drive.

Ok, thank you!

Just curious how does it matter to the device if its SSD or Spinning drive???

Are there any SSD drives that might have a better chance of working?  SSD is a much better tech for this device as we've had a few HDD failures and performance degradation of the years with the spinning drives.

I am not sure how the formatter knows what type of disk is used but it does and yes, major frustration considering that SED enabled SSD drivers are cheap and as you point out much FASTER than spinning drives and affordable SED spinning drives are getting harder to find.

Thanks again for your reply.

What is the OEM HDD size for the spinning drive?

Perhaps I should try a few other SSD's to see.  Really not sure how the machine can decipher the difference.  I have tried currently a 250gb and that is where I got the error.  Perhaps I need a smaller drive closer to the original spinner size?
