We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have been attempting to scan some old photographs into my computer (an HP Envy) however, whilst the scan runs ok and I am allowed to save the scan as a photo file to my computer, the image is completely blank.

If I attempt to open it in photoshop it is also blank.

How can I get a scanned photograph saved as the scanned image.  I am using the HP software that was installed with the printer and, after scanning, the photograph appears in the scanners control screen but when it is saved the image is blank.

Is there a problem with the software or with the settings?

Printer Software

 

"Software that was installed" could be a couple of types - both of which work much differently from the other.

 

  • HP Scan is part of the Full Feature Software / Full Driver
  • HP Smart is a "mostly stand alone" application

Not sure what you have uninstalled / installed...

 

If you have not done so, download-save-install the Full Feature Software / Full Driver for the printer

Full Driver / Full Feature Software does not require a sign-in to use the software.

 

  HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software

 

  • Download-and-Save the printer software (Full Feature Software / HP Smart / Easy Start)
  • Right-Click on the downloaded package and "Run as Administrator" to start the installation
  • Reminder:  If using Easy Start, select the Full Driver

 

Easy Start...

  About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be given the opportunity to select the software - select the "Full" driver set (as opposed to the basic driver).

 

Any...

If using USB:  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (near the last part of the driver installation)

 

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.

 

Full driver provides print and scan functions (even if HP Smart proves to be stubborn).

To scan individual multiple photos on the flatbed, set Page Size to "Detect Photos" (or similar)

Check / Adjust the Destination Folder in More > Destination

I had installed the recommended version of the software and have now re-installed the full version, as you recommended.

 

What is puzzling is that I had previously scanned photos from the scanner and they finalised as a scanned photograph that could be seen and corrected in photoshop whereas scanning via the computer software produced a non

I am glad the issue is resolved.

 

it's possible that Windows "did something" that impacted the installed printer software.

 

It happens.  Windows changes a bit or something in the File System changes or hiccups - printer software falters. 

Not uncommon.

 

Reinstalling the full driver perhaps straighten out whatever was tangled.
