Hi @Zromano,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing connection issues with your scanner can be frustrating. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the "Couldn't Connect to Scanner" error:

  1. Check for Loose Connections
    • Ensure that all cables, including the USB and power cables, are securely connected to both the scanner and the computer.
    • If using a USB hub, try connecting the scanner directly to a USB port on the computer to eliminate any potential hub issues.

  2. Power Cycle the Scanner
    • Turn off the scanner by pressing the Power button.
    • Disconnect the power supply from the scanner and wait for about 30 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power supply and turn the scanner back on.

  3. Ensure Power to Scanner
    • Verify that the power supply is securely connected and that the green LED on the power supply is on.
    • If the LED is not lit, the power supply may be defective, and you should contact HP Support.

  4. Update Drivers and Software
    • Outdated drivers or scanning software can cause connectivity issues. Visit Official HP® Support to check for and install any available updates for your scanner's drivers and related software.

  5. Reset the Scanner
    • Close any HP scanning software that is open.
    • Turn off the scanner, disconnect the power supply, wait 30 seconds, and then reconnect and turn the scanner back on.

  6. USB Port Checks
    • If connected through a front USB port, try switching to a rear USB port on the computer.
    • Consider using the USB cable provided with the scanner, as other cables might not be fully compatible.

  7. Restart the Computer
    • Sometimes a simple restart of the computer can resolve connection issues. Ensure to save any critical work before restarting.

  8. Check Scanner Settings
    • Make sure the scanner settings are correctly set for the type of scan job you are attempting.
    • Verify settings for any firewalls or antivirus software that might be blocking the connection.

If you continue to experience issues after trying these steps, it may be helpful to contact HP Support for further assistance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
