Hi @xristospc,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 4220e All-in-One printer’s scanner LED keeps flashing even when the lid is closed, and you want to know if this is normal.

Normal Behavior

On many HP All-in-One models, the scanner LED may flash when the printer is idle to indicate it’s ready for a scan job.

This does not necessarily indicate a problem if the printer is otherwise functioning (printing, scanning, copying).

Check for Pending Jobs

Open HP Smart or Devices and Printers in Windows.

Make sure there are no pending print or scan jobs in the queue that could trigger the LED.

Restart Printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and turn it on. Observe if the LED behavior changes.

Update Firmware & Drivers

Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed.

Check for updates via HP Smart or HP Support.

Test Scanning

Try performing a scan with the lid closed and open.

If scans complete successfully, the flashing LED may just be a design indication of readiness.

I hope this helps.
