Scanner doesn't scan. After half an hour of "create an account" and talking to your bot, I took pictures with my phone. You are now obsolete. Bye.

Hi @Disgruntled979 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with the HP ENVY 4500 scanner and the time spent trying to resolve the issue. Let's try to troubleshoot the scanner problem so you can get it working again.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1. Check Connections

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart both your printer and your computer.

2. Update Drivers and Software

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for the HP ENVY 4500 for Windows 11.
  • Install the drivers and restart your computer.

3. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor  HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool, which can automatically diagnose and fix scanning issues.

4. Check Windows Scan Settings

  • Open the Windows Scan app from the Microsoft Store.
  • Try scanning using this app to see if the issue persists.

5. HP Smart App

  • Download and install the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
  • Set up your printer using this app and attempt to scan again.

6. Firewall/Antivirus Settings

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking the scanning function.
  • Temporarily disable the firewall/antivirus and try scanning again.

7. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset on your printer:
    1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
    2. Wait for about a minute.
    3. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.

8. Check Scanner Hardware

  • Ensure there are no obstructions in the scanner bed or automatic document feeder.
  • Clean the scanner glass and ensure there are no smudges or dirt.
