Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended
HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

OfficeJet Pro 9018 reports "Scanner Problem. Turn the printer off and then turn it on again. If the problem persists, the scanner has become damaged and cannot copy or scan. For more information contact HP Support."

In HP Smart it shows "Scanner Failure".

If I try to scan HP Smart reports "Scanner in Use. Please try again when available." and if I try to scan from the printer it shows "Another job is in progress. Try again later."

I've followed the process to unplug the printer, wait 30 seconds, press the power button, plug it back in (directly to the outlet). On power up the printer enters its checking state and when the scanner should move it stays still and doesn't turn on the scanner light. The printer then reports the scanner failure.

The HP Print and Scan Doctor app reports "Scanner Error Detected" and shows a device Status with an X and in red.

If I try to power off the printer using the power button, the printer hangs in "shutting down" and never shuts down.

Sometimes unplugging the printer and plugging it back on will reset things and I can scan, but after going to sleep and waking up the printer is back at the "Scanner Problem" state.

The printer is out of warranty.

Is there additional troubleshooting I can try? Is there a recommended place to take the printer for repair, and is a scanner failure expensive to fix?

Hi there,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

I see that you are facing scanner failure issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 all in one printer.

This could be a hardware issue with the unit and may need repair.

I suggest that you contact HP Service Center in your location from this weblink: https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/service-center
Note: Select your country from the dropdown,  enter the city or postal code, select the product, change the radius, and click on search to locate the nearest HP Service center near your location.

Hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
