My printer/scanner just started acting up today. The problem is with the scanner flatbed, when it scans, it shows a blank document. It says it scans, but shows up as just a blank piece of paper on my computer. When I scan using the document feeder, it works fine. It prints fine and everything. Somehow the scanner flatbed is not working.

I have unplugged it multiple tmes, downloaded the full software for the printer, nothing seems to work. I wonder if its broken internally or something.

Wondering if anyone has an idea for me.

Thanks,

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are unable to scan from the printer flatbed.

  • Though it scans fine from the ADF, open the scanner lid, initiate scanning and check if the scanner light is lit up and moving across the scanner flatbed?

Meanwhile, follow the below steps to fix this issue.

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector and printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Update the printer firmware

Refer this HP document to update the printer firmware:- Click here

Let me know how it goes.

Sandytechy20,

I opened the scanner lid and ran a scan, the scanner light does not lit up or move across the flatbed. Something is probably broken or stuck internally. How should i go about fixing this?

Hi,

My printer is not scanning anything from the flatbed. The lights are not running. I would be thankful to you if you could help me out with this.

@Saksham317 If you've got the same printer as the OP and have the same issue, I must ask, did you perform a hard reset and update the printer firmware using the link shared by @sandytechy20? If yes, and yet the issue persists, we may have reached the end of the line, considering this could be a hardware malfunction and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,
