Hi @Tony439,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

This issue can be frustrating, but there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Restart Devices: Power cycle your printer, computer, and router. This can often resolve connectivity issues.
  • Check Connections: Ensure that your printer is properly connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • Update Software: Ensure that you have the latest version of the HP Smart app and that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can download the latest updates from the HP website.
  • Reinstall HP Smart: Sometimes, uninstalling and then reinstalling the HP Smart app can resolve issues.
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, a free tool provided by HP that can diagnose and resolve many issues with HP printers and scanners.
  • Firewall/Security Software: Check if any firewall or security software on your computer is blocking the connection. Try disabling it temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
  • Wi-Fi Signal: Ensure that your printer is within range of your Wi-Fi router and that there are no obstructions or interference affecting the signal.
  • Network Settings: Reset the network settings on your printer. This can often resolve connectivity issues. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to do this.
  • Use USB Connection: If the issue persists, try connecting your printer to your computer via a USB cable to see if it can scan that way.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Alden4. This is just to let you know that this morning I noted that software programs appertaining to my previous printer, were still in the computer. Purely out of hope I uninstalled this software and lo and behold my scanner is working again but many thanks for your prompt assistance
