My scanner is not working

If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M126a scanner is not working, here are the most effective steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Connection Type

  • If you're using a USB cable, ensure it is securely connected to both the printer and your computer.
  • Try a different USB port or cable if available.


2. Reinstall the Printer Driver

Outdated or missing drivers can prevent scanning.


3. Use Windows Built-in Scan Tool

  • Press Windows + S and search for Windows Fax and Scan
  • Open the app and try scanning from there


4. Try HP Smart App (if compatible)

Note: HP Smart requires Windows 10 or later or macOS 10.14 or later

5. Check Scanner in Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X > select Device Manager
  • Expand Imaging Devices
  • Right-click your scanner > Update driver


6. Restart Print Spooler Service

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter
  2. Find Print Spooler

Right-click > Restart
