Hi @Mark122020, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 4276 All-in-One Printer scanner is too bright even after adjusting the DPI, try the following steps to improve the scan quality:
Adjust Scan Settings in HP Smart or Software
- Open HP Smart or HP Scan software.
- Choose Scan and go to Advanced Settings (if available).
- Look for Brightness & Contrast settings and lower the brightness.
- If available, switch to Grayscale mode to see if it improves clarity.
Change Scan Format & Resolution
- Try scanning in PDF instead of JPEG, as PDF handling can be different.
- Reduce the DPI to 200 or 300 (too high DPI can cause excessive brightness).
Check for Firmware & Driver Updates
- Go to HP Support and update the firmware and drivers for the printer.
- Ensure you are using the latest version of HP Smart or HP Scan software.
Try a Different Scanning Software
- Use Windows Fax and Scan (Windows) or Preview (Mac) to see if the issue persists.
Clean the Scanner Glass & White Strip
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the scanner lid and gently clean the glass and white calibration strip with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Remove any smudges or dust that could affect brightness.
Reset the Printer
- Unplug the printer for 2-3 minutes and restart it.
- This can sometimes recalibrate the scanner.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
