I was scanning multiple documents to my laptop from my HP Envy 5642, most went through fine, then all of a sudden when I changed pages and hit the scan button to scan the next page, it would not scan and kicked out. I tried to hit the scan button again but it showed a message that it didn't recognize and couldn't find my laptop.

If your HP Envy 5642 scanner was initially scanning documents to your laptop without any problems and then suddenly began showing a message that it could not find or recognize your laptop, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:

Check the Connection:

  • Ensure that the USB cable or network connection (if using wireless scanning) is properly connected.
  • If using a USB connection, try using a different USB port on your laptop.
  • If using wireless scanning, check your Wi-Fi connection to ensure it is strong and connected to the correct network.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your printer and your laptop. This can often resolve connectivity issues.
  • Power off the printer, unplug it for about a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Update Drivers and Software:

  • Ensure that all printer drivers and software on your laptop are up to date. You can check HP's website for any updates specific to the HP Envy 5642.
  • Sometimes, reinstallation of the HP software can resolve issues with device recognition.

Check Printer Status:

  • Go to your printer's control panel and ensure it is not showing any error messages.
  • Make sure the printer is set to the correct mode for scanning.

Firewall and Antivirus Settings:

  • Check your firewall and antivirus settings to ensure they are not blocking the scanner's communication with your laptop.
