Laser Jet Pro MFP M479fdw
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hi all, I've been scanning using iOS Big Sur without problem using HP Smart app for a laser jet printer model M479fdw for the past 4 months without an issue. I really like being able to scan double sided pages without having to flip the paper over. Three days ago there was an update for the smart app which I always download without thinking about it twice. After that, when I scanned either single pages or multiple pages it would repeatedly scan the first page scanned over and over again. I let it run for an extended period and got to 42 scans of the same page before I cancelled the scan. I contacted support and uploaded a new version of the firmware and print drive without any luck fixing the problem. I've had to  resort to using HP easy scan again which isn't so easy but I guess reliable. I'm not certain if it's a result of the update I downloaded or if the problem began as a coincidence on the same day I downloaded the update. Has anyone else had this problem and more importantly how did you resolve it?

Your printer is OK.

 

At this writing, we are not aware of an update / fix for this issue.

The "bug", if there is one, is still around.

Yes, it seems to have surfaced during a recent update of the application version.

HP is aware of the problem - it was reported this past week.

For now, you'll need to use alternative methods to scan.

When it's available, hopefully soon, a fix / new version be released.

 

For example, (as you have already discovered)...

Please try scanning with HP Easy Scan and check if it may provide better results:

Looking forward for your feedback, may you get the expected results with above scanning solution as a workaround or may you see any similar behavior?
