Microsoft Windows 11

My HP 9015 all in one printer scanner stopped working. When I try to scan it asks me to verify device, displays scan dialog box but instead of "scan" button there is a "save" button then nothing happens. Printer works.

Hi @Shannon127,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the scanning software or drivers on your computer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Restart your computer and printer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve communication issues between the computer and the printer.
  • Update drivers: Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your HP 9015 printer. You can usually download them from the HP website. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause scanning problems.
  • Check connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or network connection, depending on how it's set up.
  • Try a different scanning software: If you're using HP's scanning software, try using a different scanning application to see if the issue persists. There are many free scanning applications available online.
  • Check for software conflicts: Sometimes other software on your computer can interfere with the scanning process. Try temporarily disabling any antivirus or firewall software and see if that helps.
  • Reset the printer: You can try resetting the printer to its factory defaults. Refer to the printer's manual for instructions on how to do this.
  • Reinstall the scanning software: If none of the above steps work, try uninstalling and reinstalling the scanning software on your computer.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the scanning issue with your HP 9015 all-in-one printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your reply. When I went to support.hp.com and entered my printers serial number, I got a message telling me that it was an invalid serial number even though one of HP's support programs which retrieved the serial number from the device was the same serial number that I had entered.  I got no help from HP tech support when I called in. I was simply told that my printer was out of warranty and that I would have to pay for support.

I called my local computer man and was told that HP was migrating everything to HPSMART. So I downloaded HPSMART and everything worked fine. I suspect that an HP update disabled my scanner forcing me to use the new HPSMART software. Why HP technical support or HP could not be bothered with notifying users that they needed to upgrade to HPSMART is beyond comprehension. This is no way to treat an HP customer. HP cusomer support really sucks. All HP technical support had to do was suggest I upgrade to HPSMART but no, they insisted that I pay them for the support. Well I was able to figure it out without their paid support. How low can HP go as a company.
