Hi @dradman,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify that the Software is Installed Correctly

  1. Open HP Solution Center or HP Smart: Ensure that the software installed includes the correct drivers and all recent updates.
  2. Re-install Software: Uninstall the software completely using the uninstall utility provided and re-install it from the official HP website or using the installation CD.

Check USB Connection

  1. Check Connections: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer. Try different USB ports if necessary.
  2. Reconnect USB Cable: Sometimes simply disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable resolves communication issues.

Refresh Windows Device Manager

  1. Access Device Manager: Click Start > Control Panel > Hardware > Device Manager.
  2. Reinstall USB Composite Device: Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, uninstall then reinstall the USB Composite Device.

Verify Network Settings

  1. Network Setup: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the same network as your computer if using a network connection.
  2. Reconfigure Network Settings: Use network setup tools to reconfigure your device’s network settings.

Check Printer Status

  1. Check Printer Panel: Ensure the printer is powered on and free of any error messages.
  2. Print Status Report: Generate a printer status report to ensure the printer's operational status.

I hope this helps.
