ExOffice Jet Pro

Hi

What resolution and file type do you suggest to scan photo prints on a HP Officejet Pro 8610 , if I want to get rid of the hard copy version of my photos and store them all as scans.

I normally use jpg format with 600dpi. But this is up to your decision. Please refer to the following article

My Opinion / Observations

There is no exact right answer to this - a lot depends on the condition of the original photo.

Higher resolution looks nice (to the extent that the DPI can impact the results).

Higher resolution creates larger file size.

Try a few - try 300 DPI, for example.

See what you think.

Try a couple at an even higher resolution - check to see if you can tell the difference.

Remember that you may want to print a couple of the scanned files.

Printers are different, of course - an older printer might not print a beautifully scanned, higher DPI, photo file as well as a new printer.  Try having a couple of your scanned files (maybe scanned at different DPI) professionally printed.   Decide what you think of the results.

What about scan quality?

If this is really important - before you trash your "hard copy" photos - consider that an older printer might not provide the same results as would newer technology.

Just an idea...

If you have a bunch of these old photos (or new ones, for that matter) - consider having (at least some of) the scans done professionally.
