Scanning to PDF via HP Smart Scan does not regard page format on HP MPF182n.

No matter whether you choose DIN A4, Letter, Whole Scan Area the resulting PDF file will always get the page format 656x927 mm. This is not DIN A4 which has 210x297mm.

Please fix this ASAP.

 Hi@, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand that Printer you need to change setting the size to 100% with the Resize setting option..

Request you to follow the below troubleshooting steps from the document fix :-

Sorry. But your answer does Not solve the Problem. I want to have a PDF with the right Page Format and send this to Somebody Else. I NEITHER WANT TO PRINT ANYTHING NOR COPY ANYTHING.

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.

@cycroft

No need to apologize.

This might simply be a misunderstanding.

Scanning is subject to the limitations of the hardware plus the software / application used to scan and save the content.

This model supports the Full Solution Software:

Scanning to PDF via HP Smart Scan does not regard page format on HP MPF182n.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

656 mm in inches = 25.8 inches

927 mm in inches = 36.5 inches

That result seems inconsistent with what the printer can do.

I cannot explain how you are getting a 25 x 36 inch scan size (opened and viewed at 100%).

Example - HP Smart - Windows - Scan - Document

HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Document_Screen_5HP_Smart_W10_Scan_Document_Screen_5

So - what?

Not sure.

It should not happen that you can a document and end up with a giant "poster" sized document / file.

Trying again with HP Smart:  If you are using the ADF to scan a document, try selecting the A4 page size as shown in the example.

If you are indeed stuck with a giant "poster" sized document,

That is, for some reason, you don't have your original A4 document used for the original scan,

Use Adobe Reader DC (as shown in the post from @praveenbv) > Print the file at a reduced size that "fits" on your A4 paper,

Avoid HP Smart >> Scan printed document into your computer using HP Scan (part of the Full Solution software).

Send that file to the recipient.

I have the same problem. But the answers are not helpful...

I have a OfficeJet Pro 9020 and use the HP Smart app. Although I select A4 (which is 210x 297 mm) as the format / scan area the resulting PDF-document is 656x927 mm (with 300 dpi) and 326x461,4 mm (with 150 dpi). This behavior is new! I have scanned hundreds of documents in the past 12 months. But since a few days the scan result has the wrong format. Was there a software update recently?

@JetA1

And All...

It has been discovered - and has been reported to HP - that the phenomenon you describe is likely a result of HP Smart changing the output to "inflate" the size, both Page Size and File Size, too.

The answers are not helpful because, at the moment - at least at this writing - there is not a known solution using HP Smart.

Workarounds:

  • Use a different scan software / application.
  • Accept that the application is not working properly right now and Print the file at a reduced size.

Example

Printing at Actual Size won't work because the file structure is damaged.

Printing at "Fit" shrinks the file down to a size that fits on the paper.

What else?

Wait.  The fix will likely take the form of a new version release that includes a solution to the problem.
