Scanning error with HP Smart after App update on MacOS with AIO 8730 Printer

Software Bug in HP Smart! The new HP Smart app Update leads to an error in scanning via the Document feeder: The first page is shown as appearing many times (10+), hence a two page documents becomes a 11+ page document with 10 pages being page 1. This is consistent and also after reinstalling the app. The bug only happened after the last upgrade. Printer is HP AIO 8730.

Has anybody a solution?

Good News (sort of):

Your Printer is OK.

At this writing, we are not aware of an update / fix for this issue.

The "bug"/ issue / problem, is still around.

HP is aware of the problem - it was reported last week.

When the solution is available, I would guess it will take the form of a new version release of the HP Smart application.

For now, you'll need to use alternative methods to scan.

I too am having the same issue with my HP Smart software. I have been searching the Apple App Store today but haven't yet found anything that works well (for my purposes, at least), that can be at least a solid stop-gap scanning app.

I was wondering if there is any chance that they can go back to a version that worked in the recent past, at least for the time being.

My particular needs: I am scanning books with a multi feeder (to scan multiple pages, both sides at once) all-in-one printer scanner (the HP OfficeJet Pro 9025), and I need to be able to use the multi feeder, as well as to be able to scan the cover, and then add pages from either just a chapter, or even from entire books, and then add another page (the back cover). It doesn't appear to me that HP Easy Scan will do all that.

Does anyone know a piece of software for the Mac OS that works well and is cheap or free? If I can find one that works well, I will post it.

An update: I've been working with HP Easy Scan , and it works quite well for my purposes. In fact, it will automatically straighten all pages in a scan, something that HP Smart will not do automatically. It only does it manually, one page at a time. Easy Scan even seems to scan faster than HP Smart. Easy Scan also uses a multi feeder quite easily. It does take a while to process pages after the scan, whereas HP Smart (when it is working correctly) saves quite quickly.
