Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

The task I want to do is to scan a document and save it on my laptop as a pdf file.

I connected the USB cable that I use to print documents (so I know it is ok).

My OS is Windows 11 Pro (22H2).

I tried to start a scan job from my printer panel, but it failed.

Tried to update the driver.

Installed print & scan doctor 5.0.18 and run it.

Still, when opening HP Smar app and selecting scan, I get a message "Scanning is currently unavailable".

I've been massing with this issue for a couple of hours already.

Any idea what can be wrong and how to fix?

Thanks

Welcome to the HP Community --

For those reading - a review:

Scanning from the printer to the computer requires that the full driver printer software is installed and that the feature to access "Scan to Computer" is enabled (on the computer).

Connection - USB Printer Cable between Printer and Computer

Assuming it is the way you normally use the printer,the USB printer cable would remain connected between the printer and the computer.

Was there a reason the USB printer cable was disconnected?

That is, were you experiencing other issues before you tried to scan at the printer?

====================================

Next,

Because of the error, consider Restarting at least the computer and the printer.

====================================

Next,

If you do not have "Scan to Computer" set to automatically start when the computer is restarted, do check that the feature is enabled in the Printer Assistant.

The installation of the full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:

Printer Assistant

HP Scan

Open the Printer Assistant > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Example - Full Feature Software - Installed in Programs and Features

Programs_and_Features_Printer_Desktop_Icons_11Programs_and_Features_Printer_Desktop_Icons_11

====================================

Next,

One way to check whether the printer software is still in working order is to scan from the computer using the HP Scan software.  HP Scan should work as it has always done.

General Example - HP Scan - PDF

====================================

Next,

After the printer and computer are restarted,

When you are confident that the printer software is installed and working,

Test scanning from the printer to the computer.

====================================

Next,

If the issue persists,

  • Uninstall the printer software from Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and log in
  • Disconnect the USB printer cable between the printer and the computer
  • Install a fresh copy of the printer software
  • Connect the USB cable when instructed to do so -- toward the end of the installation procedure
  • Restart the computer and log in

Printer - Full Feature Software - Install

  • HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:  Printer Assistant and HP Scan.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.  No Sign-in required.

Next,

  • If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable before installing the printer software.
  • Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start Software

Installation

  • Open File Explorer
  • Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
  • Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator
  • If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation).
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in
