I have an HP Deskjet 2720e. Until recently I scanned documents through the HP Smart App without any problems. Starting 2 days ago, every time I try to scan a document, the following message appears: “Feature unavailable. This feature is not supported by the selected printer. Connect to a different printer to use this feature.” Any idea how I can fix this?

The error you're encountering “Feature unavailable. This feature is not supported by the selected printer. Connect to a different printer to use this feature” usually occurs when there's a communication breakdown between the HP Smart App and the printer’s firmware. Here’s how to troubleshoot and fix it:

Restart All Devices:

  • Turn off your printer, computer or mobile device, and router.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then turn them back on in this order: router → printer → computer/mobile.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure both your printer and device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Avoid using guest networks or VPNs during setup or scanning.

Update the HP Smart App:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart App installed from the Microsoft Store or [App Store/Google Play].

Use HP Smart’s Diagnose & Fix Tool:

  • Open the HP Smart App.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Advanced Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

Remove and Re-add the Printer:

  • In the HP Smart App, remove the printer.
  • Restart the app and re-add the printer by following the setup prompts.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from power for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and wait for it to fully power on.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • In the HP Smart App, go to Printer Settings > Printer Updates and install any available updates.
