HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer

Yes, I've unplugged it and plugged it back in. It scans pictures with a lighter background just fine - all the colors show up properly, but pictures with a darker background turns people's peach-toned skin color blue. This purchase was made to scan photos, I need a solution. Where can I adjust the color tint? because the only adjustments I can make in HP Smart are for: Brightness, Saturation, Contrast, Clarity, Exposure, Shadows, Highlights and Whites. No color adjustments, and none of the filters help either.

Hi @yarnwizard ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

your HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer's scanner is having difficulty accurately interpreting colors, particularly with darker backgrounds. Unfortunately, the HP Smart app does not have a dedicated color tint adjustment setting, as you've noted. However, here are some steps you can try to improve the scan quality:

1. Check for Software Updates

Ensure that both your HP Smart app and printer firmware are up to date. HP periodically releases updates that improve performance and address issues like color accuracy.

2. Use Different Scanning Software

Consider using alternative scanning software that offers more control over color correction, such as:

  • Windows Scan (built into Windows)
  • Adobe Acrobat (for PDFs)
  • VueScan (a third-party software that offers extensive scanner control)

These programs may provide additional settings for color adjustment.

3. Manual Color Correction

After scanning, you can use an image editor like Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or even Microsoft Paint to manually adjust the colors and correct any blue tint. You can tweak hue and saturation to restore natural skin tones.

4. Advanced Calibration

If you're using your printer for high-quality photo scanning, you might consider calibrating the scanner. Calibration tools (like IT8 calibration charts) allow for color profiles to be applied to scans, which can correct color distortions.

5. Check Printer/Scanner Settings

In some cases, adjusting the scan resolution or format can improve color accuracy. Try the following:

  • Resolution: Higher resolution may capture more accurate color data.
  • Format: Experiment with scanning in different formats, like PNG or TIFF, which preserve more color information than JPEG.

6. Clean the Scanner Glass

Occasionally, dust or smudges on the scanner glass can distort colors. Clean the glass with a microfiber cloth and ensure there are no obstructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
