Hi @BV56,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the screenshot. It clearly shows the error message “Probleem met de scanner” (Problem with the scanner) when using the document feeder on your HP DeskJet 4120e. The fact that it works fine on the second attempt suggests this is a startup initialization issue rather than a permanent hardware fault.

Steps to Fix:

1. Update HP App

2. Update Printer Firmware

  • On the printer:
    • Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update Printer.
  • Or via the HP App:
    • Settings → Printer Settings → Advanced → Firmware Update.

3. Power Cycle Before First Scan

  • Turn off the printer completely.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then power it back on.
  • Let it sit for 2–3 minutes before scanning.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Press and hold Cancel + Wireless buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • Reconnect the printer in the HP App.

5. Check ADF Sensors

  • Ensure no dust or paper fragments are in the feeder.
  • Clean the ADF rollers gently with a lint-free cloth.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
