Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Why o why is HP persisting in requiring their app - and logging into it! - in order to simply scan to my computer? I don't care what HP says about not keeping your information etc, that doesn't fly with corporate IT/Infosec. It means that my HP printer is useless for work.

 

It's one thing to have the app, I can see why that may be required (easier to engineer, especially when you consider the variety or drivers/software on machines). But requiring a login is silly and offputting.

 

If HP doesn't offer a workaround, I can imagine many people will be no longer buying their products.

I understand your concern. Yes, the HP Smart app requires you to log in to use its feature. 

 

The workaround is to download and use the HP Easy Scan app from the App Store and check if that helps.

 

Alternatively, you may also use Apple's inbuilt feature - Apple Image Capture app.
