Scanning to computer

HP Recommended
Lenovo T480
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The printer is connected to my computer with USB cable as WiFi not available at this time.  I am accessing the HP Smart App and clicking on "scan".  I have the document loaded via the document feeder on the top front of the printer (not the back where the print paper goes) as that is what was instructed in the video.  Nothing happens when I click on "scan" in the HP Smart App.

Which Printer do you have? Also, HP Smart App works only on wireless.
