HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

I am trying to scan a large amount of documents (4626) in batches of 250 each.

I got 750  (3 batches) scanned and now the scanner is scanning only about 20 documents and stopping.  The HP Smart is not saving it.  I'm have to restart the process again but it still not scanning properly.

Hi @FrankPI,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check for Software Updates

  • Update HP Smart App: Go to the app store (Windows Store, App Store, or Google Play) and check for updates for the HP Smart app.
  • Update Printer Firmware:
    1. On the printer's control panel, swipe down to open the dashboard.
    2. Select "Setup," then "Printer Maintenance," and finally "Update the Printer."

Restart Devices

  • Restart Printer:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and the power outlet.
    3. Wait for 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
  • Restart Computer: Restart your computer to clear any software issues.

Check Scanner Hardware

  • Clean Scanner Glass: Use a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner to clean the scanner glass and the ADF.
  • Check ADF: Ensure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the ADF.

Adjust Scanning Settings

  • Lower Resolution: Lower the scan resolution in the HP Smart app or printer software to reduce the file size.
  • Use Different Software: Try using other HP scanning software, such as HP Scan and Capture, which might handle large batches better.

Monitor Scan Size and System Performance

  • Free Up Resources: Close other applications running on your computer that may be using memory and processing power.
  • Monitor Hard Drive Space: Ensure you have adequate storage space to save the scan files.

Scan in Smaller Batches

If you continue to experience issues, try scanning in smaller batches and combining the files later:

  • Scan in Batches of 100: Instead of scanning 250 documents at a time, try scanning in smaller batches, such as 100 documents per batch.

I hope this helps.
