Trying to scan to a PDF I cannot find where to change it all it scans as pictures HP Desk Jet 4152e

I understand your HP DeskJet 4152e is scanning files as images instead of PDF, and you want to change the scan format. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Change the file type in HP Smart (Windows or Mac)
Open HP Smart → Scan → Scanner.
Before scanning, look for File Type or Save as and select PDF instead of JPG or PNG.

Use “Document” scan mode instead of “Photo”
In the scan settings, choose Document as the scan type.
Document mode usually defaults to PDF output.

Adjust advanced scan settings
Click More settings or the gear icon in the scan window.
Set File format = PDF, then start the scan.

Combine multiple pages into one PDF (optional)
If scanning multiple pages, enable “Add pages” or “Combine into single document” in HP Smart.
This creates one PDF file instead of separate images.

Check mobile app settings (if scanning from phone)
In the HP Smart mobile app, tap Scan → Settings (gear icon).
Change the output format to PDF before scanning.
