Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Scans saved as PDFs always produce oversized page dimensions, e.g. an 8.5 x 11 page saves as a 35.42 x 45.83 PDF. Working with the HP app on Mac Sequoia with an HP Envy Inspire 7200e.

Hi @Meadowes

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel to scan a standard page and then see the PDF saved with oversized dimensions. You’ve already noticed the mismatch, and I appreciate the effort you’ve taken to check the output carefully.

Let’s go through some steps that can help bring the scanned PDF back to the correct size.

Steps to Correct Oversized PDF Scan Dimensions

Check Scan Settings in the HP App

  • Open the HP App on your Mac.
  • Select your HP Envy Inspire 7200e.
  • Go to the Scan section and choose “Preferences” or “Settings.”
  • Ensure the paper size is set to “Letter (8.5 x 11)” or “A4,” depending on your document.

Adjust Output Format

  • In the HP App, before saving, confirm the output format is PDF.
  • Look for an option like “Fit to Page” or “Actual Size.”
  • Select “Actual Size” to prevent scaling.

Verify Scanner Glass vs. Document Feeder

  • If you are scanning from the flatbed glass, make sure the document is aligned to the edges.
  • If using the automatic document feeder, confirm the feeder settings match the paper size.

Check Page Scaling in Preview (Mac)

  • After scanning, open the PDF in Preview.
  • Go to Tools > Adjust Size.
  • Confirm the dimensions are set to 8.5 x 11 or A4.
  • If oversized, resave the file with corrected dimensions.

Update HP App and Printer Firmware

  • Open the HP App and check for updates.
  • Visit the HP support page for your printer model: HP Envy Inspire 7200e Drivers and Downloads.
  • Install the latest firmware and software updates to ensure compatibility with macOS Sequoia.

Run a Test Scan

  • Try scanning a single page after adjusting the settings.
  • Save as PDF and check the dimensions again.

By aligning the scan settings with the correct paper size and ensuring the HP App is updated, the saved PDF should reflect the true dimensions of your document.

Thanks for the reply Hawks Eye, but no, tried all that and the problem's still there. However I did discover a workaround... found an old app on the App Store called "HP Easy Scan." It's kinda kludgy but at least it produces a proper sized PDF. So as long as I remember to use HP Easy Scan instead of the HP App I'm good to go.

You are welcome @Meadowes

I understand how frustrating it must feel to have scans saving with oversized page sizes, especially after trying adjustments without success. It’s great that you’ve been resourceful and found a workaround with HP Easy Scan, even if it feels a bit clunky. Since you’d prefer a smoother experience, let’s look at ways to make sure your scans save correctly without needing to rely on older software.

Steps to Try in the HP App

Check Scan Settings Before Saving

  • Open the HP App.
  • Select your scanner, then go to Scan Settings.
  • Under Output Size, ensure the paper size matches the document (for example, A4 or Letter).

Adjust Resolution and File Type

  • Set resolution to 300 dpi for standard documents.
  • Choose PDF (single file) instead of image formats.
  • This helps keep the file size and page dimensions consistent.

Use “Fit to Page” Option

  • In the HP App, look for a Fit to Page or Crop to Content option.
  • This trims excess margins and ensures the PDF matches the actual document size.

Alternative HP Tool

If the HP App continues to give oversized PDFs, you can also use HP Scan Extended, which provides more control over page size and output.
Guide: HP Scan Software (Windows, macOS)

Practical Tip

Since you’ve already confirmed HP Easy Scan works, you can keep it as a fallback. But by adjusting the HP App’s scan settings or using HP Scan Extended, you should be able to save properly sized PDFs without juggling between apps.
