We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Because of issues with One Drive I deleted my original user name after setting up a new user. Now, when I use my scanner with the lid open on a small book, the background is no longer white. I really would like to change back to a white background from the gray automatically. Thanks

@scajjmb1015, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for sharing those details. The shift from a white to a gray background in your scans after switching user profiles suggests that some default scanning settings were lost when the user account was deleted. Here are steps to try and restore white background scans on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9025:

Check Scan Settings in HP Smart or HP Scan

HP scanning software often includes a background cleanup or enhancement feature:

Using HP Smart:

  1. Open HP Smart app.
  2. Click Scan, then select Scanner.
  3. Click Advanced Settings or the gear icon ⚙️.
  4. Look for options like:
Enhance → turn on or off.
Background Cleanup or Erase Background → enable this if available.
    Contrast/Brightness → increase contrast and/or brightness slightly.
  5. Do a test scan.

Using HP Scan:

  1. Search HP Scan in Start Menu.
  2. Select your scanner.
  3. Look for "Image Adjustment" or "Advanced Settings".
  4. Adjust Brightness and Contrast
    Brightness: +20 to +40
    Contrast: +10 to +30
  5. Try scanning again.

Reinstall or Reset Scanner Software

It’s possible that old settings didn’t carry over to the new user profile:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
  2. Uninstall:
    HP Smart
    HP Scan and Capture
    Any HP driver package listed
  3. Restart your PC.
  4. Reinstall from HP 9025 Driver Page

Use "Document" Mode Instead of "Photo"

When scanning, ensure you're selecting Document mode, not Photo, which can capture more background tones (like gray or shadows).

Check for External Lighting or Lid Issues

  • If the lid is not flat on the book or external light enters during scan, it can gray out the background.
  • Try using a black cloth or sheet around the edges to block light.
  • Use "Scan as PDF" > Black & White to reduce background noise.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The option is under:

  • adjustments
  • more
  • document remove background
  • cleanup background-remove background
  • remove background-make white
  • sensitivity 100%
  • okay

Unfortunately, this has to be done with every page I scan. Before, the background was just always white with the lid open.

I did everything that you suggested yesterday. After trying all of your suggestions for HP Smart App & HP Scan, I managed to get as far as being able to fix each individual page by the means of my last comment from yesterday. It was slow going and not what I was looking for, but at least it was working somewhat. I had to shut my computer down for a while because of a nasty thunderstorm, (I also unplug in this situation). That evening, I got back on my scanner and was trying to scan with the lid open again. It's not working properly. I can only clear part of the background. One edge stays gray. So, I downloaded everything HP 9025, uninstalled everything HP, then reinstalled all of the downloads. Nothing has changed. The best I get is part of the gray background still there and I have to adjust every page individually. Any suggestions? I'm going to try the uninstall, reinstall thing one more time.

Is it possible that the white background feature that I have been working so hard to get back is only available through HP Scan & Capture? Nothing is working. Even adjusting clean up background sensitivity only washes out everything, not just the background, and it makes my document look weird. HP Smart doesn't help at all. I no longer have a warrant or free support.

Also, You're telling me to check the lid, cover with a dark cloth, etc... I am trying to scan with the lid UP. I've done it in the past and the background was white, not gray.
