Hi @WPSS1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your printer displays a message like "Printer needs intervention" and only prints once before requiring a reboot, it suggests there may be a specific issue that needs addressing. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check for Common Issues

Paper Jam:

  • Open the printer’s paper tray and look inside for any jammed paper. Remove any paper that might be stuck and close the tray securely.
  • Check other areas, such as the rear of the printer, for paper jams.

Ink or Toner Cartridges:

  • Ensure the ink or toner cartridges are properly installed. Open the printer’s cartridge access door and check if the cartridges are seated correctly.
  • Check for any warnings about low or empty cartridges and replace them if necessary.

Check Printer Display and Indicators:

  • If your printer has a display screen, check it for additional error codes or messages that might provide more details on the issue.

2. Perform Basic Maintenance

Restart Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Wait for about 30 seconds, plug it back in, and turn it on. This can help clear temporary errors.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Go to the HP website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve printer performance.

3. Check Printer Queue and Settings

Clear Printer Queue:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Printers & Scanners).
  • Right-click your printer and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel any pending print jobs to clear the queue.

Verify Print Settings:

  • Ensure that the correct printer settings are selected. Check the print quality settings and paper type to ensure they match what is loaded in the printer.

4. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP support website. This tool can automatically diagnose and fix common printer issues.
  • Some printers have built-in diagnostic tools accessible via the printer’s control panel or software. Run any available diagnostic tests.

5. Reinstall or Update Printer Drivers

  • Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
  • Uninstall the current drivers from Device Manager or Control Panel, and then install the new drivers.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the printer software or application.

6. Inspect Printer Connections:

  • Ensure that all cables connecting the printer to your computer or network are securely connected.
  • If you’re using a network printer, ensure it’s properly connected to your Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.

7. Perform a Factory Reset

  1. Reset Printer Settings:
    • Refer to your printer’s manual or HP support website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset. This can help resolve persistent issues by restoring default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
