Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Officejet 4500 All-in-One Printer - G510g
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to install the HP Software and Drives suite for my OfficeJet 4500. After choosing the desired options in the startup menu, I click on OK and it won't continue the installation. I tried it on a couple of computers, but still the same. I have Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems. All with the latest build. I can install HPSmart. Printing is working, scanning is not working. Looked into several messages in several forums, but no resolution. I have admin rights on all systems. I'm using a wired configuration. The printserver page is accessibel. So no networking issues. How can I make scanning possible again?

Hi@Filippas,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing scanning issues with the HP Officejet 4500 All-In-One Printer.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
  • Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers. Please try to scan post running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

If the scanning still does not work then I suggest you to uninstall the printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them using the following steps:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may download and install the drivers from this link. Now you may try to scan again.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks for your feedback. I already tried all the steps described. Nothing worked. I still can’t install the software/drives for my OJ4500.
The link provided does not work.

As you can see, there are no Installation Driver Software available. If I click on Learn More in that page, I get an choice to install a network printer. If I click that option, I redirected to an instruction for connecting a WiFi network printer (even though it mentions cabled printer). This instruction assumes that I use the Windows native provided driver. If I follow this instruction, the printer is added and it prints. But this method doesn't make scanning possible. Windows sees my OJ4500 only as a printer and not a multifunction printer/scanner. And since HP Smart app doesn't also make scanning possible, I'm kind of stuck.

Windows Fax and Scan app returns error "No scanners were detected" when I click on New Scan.
"Windows supports most standard printing and scanning tasks with the built-in driver"  as stated on https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2224996-1993298-16 is not correct in this case.
