Get many long vertical streaks when using copy function but they are not there when printing from desktop or scanning documents.  Can I fix this and if so, how?

@Mincy,

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support community!

  • Are you using the flat-bed scanner glass or the top document feeder (ADF) to copy documents?

Fingerprints, smudges, dust, or debris on the scanner glass, under the scanner lid, or in the document feed slot can cause lines and color bands.

Cleaning these parts with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner should fix the issue.

Let's try these steps:

  • Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector.
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Clean the scanner glass. Follow the steps from this link
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  • Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  • Try to copy/scan a document and check if the line still appears.
  • If the vertical line shows up when making a copy from the ADF, follow the steps mentioned in this video

Unplugging and Regulations-booting seems to have solved the problem with scans.  Also cleaned what appeared to be clean scanning & copying surfaces.  Thanks for the tip!

Re-booting, not Regulations.
