Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended

Hello,

I need your help because I recently purchased an HP printer and the scan to PC function is not working. So I go to the HP Scan Assistant software, and the ScanToPCActivationApp software spams me with notifications saying “Scan to PC is no longer active” every second. I disable and then re-enable Scan to PC, and then it works (the “Automatically start scanning to PC when Windows starts” box is enabled). But when I restart my PC, ScanToPCActivationApp spams me with the “no longer enabled” notification and I have to do it all over again. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the HP Scan software, and I've restarted the printer several times. I don't know what else to do. I hope one of you can help me. Thank you very much!

The last time I saw this as a chronic issue was a number of years ago -

It could still "be a thing" though I leave the ScanToPCActivationApp service disabled unless needed.

At the time, after pulling apart some of the print services associated with keeping the ScanToPCActivationApp active, I came to the conclusion that the service was not staying connected.

Interestingly, the ScanToPCActivationApp wobbly service was noted on just one printer on just one Windows 10 system.   ?

Start --

Much might depend on the printer model , the Operating System / version on your Windows machine, and -- quite possibly -- the way the printer is connected to your network.

ScanToPCActivationApp

This works --

Unless you feel compelled to leave the service active,

and

If nothing helps to resolve the problem,

then

Consider setting the ScanToPCActivationApp  service to disabled.

If you need the service, activate it use it, disable it until next time.

What else?

Additional ideas include and are not be limited to...

==================================

Printer Firmware

Make sure the Firmware is current.

Firmware is typically kept updated automatically -- you can download and install Firmware manually.

Open

 Product Home - Printers

Enter the device type and model name of your HP product

Open Category HP Software & Drivers / Firmware Updates

If needful, Change / Update the Operating System / version and Submit

Expand the list - for example, "Open all"

Find / open / the Firmware updates and follow the instructions to download, save, and install

Printer - Connection to Network

If the printer supports it, a wired Ethernet connection between printer and router is generally a better option.

Although using a manual IP cannot fix a weak or poorly configured network, the static IP address can stabilize the connection as best can be done.

Reminders

  • Wireless -- Too close (to the router) is just as bad as (or worse than) too far away.
  • A weak, outdated, poorly configured, or poorly placed router can increase the probability of issues on any network.

On a printer that includes a full touchscreen Printer Control Panel, the printer connection can be entered / updated at the printer.

If the printer lacks a full touchscreen Printer Control Panel -- or you simply dislike typing on a tiny interface -- use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / update your printer's network connection service.

Examples -

Example – Alternate EWS format (Select new printers and some Laser Printers)

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Primary Ethernet > Check / Adjust Status and other tabs...

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Network > Wi-Fi > Section IP Config > IPv4

Notes

  • It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.
  • If needful and if supported, set the Band Frequency to the frequency you want the printer to use.

EWS - Network - Wi-Fi - IP Config

(Method is similar for the Wired Connection)

EWS_9135_Network_Wi-Fi_IP_Config_IPv4_3EWS_9135_Network_Wi-Fi_IP_Config_IPv4_3

OR

Older / other Inkjet Printers

Ethernet

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wired (802.3) > IPv4 Configuration

Wireless

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > IPv4 Configuration

As Available:

Tab Network > Wireless (802.11) > Advanced

Network Interface on / off, Network SSID name, Security Settings, Passphrase / Password

Select and connect to the correct SSID / network name for the bandwidth you are using.

Note:   It is not mandatory that you use a manual / static IP address.  Doing so can improve stability.

Device - Computer

It is important that Windows Updates AND the printer's own full driver printer software are kept current and in peak condition.

>>> Ask if you need / want help to (re)install the printer software.

>>> Include your printer model and OS / version.

The printer might respond better to a TCP/IP connection type (in addition to the Static IP address setup).

-------------------- --------------------

Method – Windows - Create TCP IP port (InkJet Printer) - Change connection type

Method - Create / Change-to TCP/IP port

TCP/IP can resolve odd connection, scanning, and installation problems.

Create / Switch to a TCP/IP Port to facilitate communication and prevent ‘offline’ issues

Find the printer's IPv4 address

Print a Configuration Page

OR

Tap on the wireless icon on the Front panel of your Printer to get the IP address

Next,

Windows 11

Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Select Printer > Printer Properties

OR (older versions of Windows)
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click the printer > Left-Click Printer Properties

Tab Ports
Click Add Port

Select Standard TCP/IP Port

Select New Port and follow the instructions
Type in the correct IP address for the printer

“Note that you can ALWAYS revert back to the original port that the HP software installed by selecting the HP port within the Ports tab (in Printer Properties)”
