Hello,

The scanning goes on but never scans now. It is an Envy Photo 7855.

This is the first time in a few years, it did not begin scanning.

Any suggestions?

If your HP ENVY Photo 7855 printer is not scanning as expected, here are some steps and tips to help resolve the issue.

 

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug the power cord from the outlet. Wait for about 60 seconds and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your computer to refresh the system settings.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network, whether it’s via USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet.
  • For network connections, make sure the printer and your device are on the same network.

Update or Reinstall the Printer Software:

  • Visit the HP Support website to check for and download the latest drivers and software updates for your printer model.
  • Reinstall the printer software to ensure that all components are functioning and not corrupted.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your device. Ensure both the app and the firmware for the printer are up to date.
  • Try to perform a scan using the HP Smart app as it includes troubleshooting tools that might help identify any issues.

Check Scanner Light and Movement:

  • Open the scanner lid and start a scan. Check if the scanner light illuminates and moves across the scanner glass. If it doesn’t, there might be a hardware issue.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool to automatically diagnose and resolve printing, scanning, and driver issues.

Check Firewall and Security Settings:

  • Your firewall software might block the printer's communication. Temporarily disable the firewall and retry scanning to check if the firewall is causing the issue.

Inspect Scanner Glass and Document Feeder:

  • Make sure the scanner glass is clean and free of smudges or dust. Clean it with a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner.
  • Ensure no paper jams or obstructions exist in the document feeder.

Restore Network Defaults:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to Setup > Network Setup > Restore Network Settings to restore the network settings to default. Then, try reconnecting to your network.

 

These steps should help you diagnose and potentially resolve the scanning issue with your HP ENVY Photo 7855.
