Hi @Kota2007,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with scanning from HP SMART and encountering problems with the preview and file format errors, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Update HP SMART and Printer Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest version of HP SMART installed on your computer. Additionally, make sure that your printer drivers are up to date. Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers for your HP Laser MFP 136nw model.
  • Check Scanner Connection: Ensure that the scanner is correctly connected to your computer, either through a USB cable or over the network if it's a wireless scanner. If using a wireless connection, make sure the printer and computer are on the same network.
  • Scan from the Printer: Try initiating a scan directly from the printer's control panel (if available). This helps determine if the issue is specific to the HP SMART software or if there's a problem with the scanner itself.
  • Check File Format Settings: In the scanning settings of HP SMART, make sure you have selected the correct file format for your scans (e.g., JPEG or PDF). Double-check these settings before initiating a scan.
  • Check for Software Conflicts: Ensure that there are no conflicts with other scanning or imaging software on your computer. Sometimes, multiple scanning programs can interfere with each other.
  • Reinstall HP SMART: Uninstall HP SMART from your computer and then reinstall it. This can help resolve any software-related issues.
  • Scan to Different File Formats: Experiment with scanning to different file formats to see if the issue persists. For example, try scanning to a JPEG file instead of a PDF file, and vice versa.
  • Scan Using Alternative Software: If the problem persists, try using alternative scanning software to see if the issue is specific to HP SMART. Windows Fax and Scan or third-party scanning applications can be used for this purpose.
  • Check for Updates on Operating System: Ensure that your operating system is up to date with the latest updates and patches.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
