Hi @Robin7642

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how discouraging it feels when printing works fine but scanning refuses to respond, especially after you’ve already installed the app. Thank you for confirming that the printer connects correctly and that you’ve tried the HP App on your iPad and iPhone.

Let’s go step by step to get scanning working again:

Step 1: Confirm the HP App

  • On iOS, the correct app is HP App (this replaced HP Smart).
  • Make sure you have the latest version from the App Store.
  • Open the app, select your printer, and check that it shows “Ready” on the home screen.

Step 2: Reset the Connection

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  2. Restart your iPad/iPhone.
  3. Power the printer back on and reconnect it to the same Wi‑Fi network as your iOS device.
  4. Open the HP App again and re‑add the printer if necessary.

Step 3: Use the Scan Option in the App

  • In the HP App, tap Scan.
  • If the icon does not respond, try tapping Camera Scan first to confirm the app is functioning.
  • Then return to Printer Scan and select your OfficeJet 5200.

Step 4: Check Permissions

  • On your iOS device, go to Settings > HP App.
  • Ensure permissions for Local Network and Camera are enabled.
  • Without Local Network access, the app cannot communicate with the printer for scanning.

Step 5: Update Firmware

  1. On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.
  2. Install any available updates.
  3. Restart the printer after the update.

Step 6: Try a Direct Scan

  • On the printer’s control panel, select Scan > Computer or Mobile Device.
  • Ensure your iOS device is awake and connected to the same Wi‑Fi.
  • The printer should hand off the scan job to the HP App.

By refreshing the connection, checking permissions, and ensuring the latest app and firmware are in place, scanning should begin working smoothly again. If the scan button still does nothing, reinstalling the HP App completely often clears hidden permission conflicts.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
