HP Smart Tank 6001 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 11

Using HP6001 as copier, push white button (for b/w copies) and all buttons on panel light up flashing and system freezes--no copying happens.; will not shut off with red X or the on/off button.   Have to unplug and try to "reboot" . . .  . . eventually, after two tries, it will copy.

What gives?

What is the proper sequence to follow?

Hi @DZ82,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP DeskJet 6001 freezing when making a copy using the control panel. Let’s go through a few checks.

Use the Correct Copy Procedure

Turn the printer on and wait until it becomes idle and quiet.

Load paper into the input tray.

Place the original document face-down on the scanner glass.

Close the scanner lid completely.

Press the Black Copy button once and wait for the copy process to start.

Note: Press the button only once. Repeated presses can cause the panel to freeze.

Check Control Panel Responsiveness

Turn the printer on.

Wait 30 seconds before pressing any buttons.

Verify that no lights are blinking before starting a copy job.

Reset the Printer

Turn the printer on.

Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet and reconnect it to the printer.

Turn the printer on if it does not power on automatically.

Update Printer Firmware

Open HP Smart on your computer or mobile device.

Select the printer.

Check for firmware updates and install any available update.

Restart the printer and test copying again.

I hope this helps.
